Many chemistry problems involve solving for an unknown variable (ie. "x"). Being able to effectively manipulate and solve these kinds of equations is important.
Many aspects of chemistry, especially stoichiometry, are basically unit conversion problems. Having a good understanding of ratios, and the ability to use them to convert units (or dimensions) is essential.
Practicing this skill will greatly enhance your ability to balance a chemical reaction.
In some cases, you'll need to know how to round your answer to the correct number of "sig figs". Learn the rules for how this works.
